Government House
SCG was engaged by the Attorney-General’s Department to support the comprehensive upgrade of physical and electronic security systems at Government House in Yarralumla, Canberra – the official residence and workplace of the Governor-General of Australia. Situated on a 54-hectare site that includes land and lakeside boundaries, Government House presented unique challenges requiring a high level of sensitivity to its operational, aesthetic and heritage significance.

SCG applied its deep expertise in high-security environments to develop and deliver a staged and flexible methodology, beginning with the creation of a Site Security Master Plan. This plan formed the foundation for future works, which included enhancements to perimeter fencing, surveillance and detection systems, duress alarms, and supporting infrastructure such as conduits, cabling and an uninterrupted power supply. A central focus for the project was the integration of all security elements through a single Security Management System, ensuring a seamless and scalable solution.
Our scope also included preparing detailed technical specification documentation to inform the development of a Request for Tender, evaluating contractor responses and providing ongoing technical oversight during delivery. SCG worked closely with the Attorney-General’s Department and appointed contractors throughout the process, ensuring compliance with government security policies and alignment with the site’s threat and risk profile. On completion of the works, we delivered full testing and commissioning services, along with design certifications.
This project showcases SCG’s ability to deliver contemporary, sustainable and value-for-money security solutions in highly sensitive environments. Our use of advanced 3D Revit modelling allowed for greater clarity and engagement with stakeholders during the design phase. With a team comprising former professionals from the Attorney-General’s Department, ASIO T4, the AFP and Defence services, SCG brought knowledge depths and insights that were critical to project success. As a certified Australian Veteran Owned Business, SCG was proud to contribute to the protection of one of the nation’s most important official residences.
