National Indigenous Australians Agency Protective Risk Assessment
SCG was proud to support the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) in a significant security project designed to strengthen the safety and resilience of its operations, personnel and community engagement. Our engagement included delivery of a comprehensive Protective Security Risk Assessment, assistance in finalising the NIAA Security Plan and Procedures, and development of a fit-for-purpose Security Incident Management Procedure.
As an Executive Agency within the Prime Minister and Cabinet Portfolio, the NIAA operates in a uniquely complex and culturally sensitive environment, with strong presence in First Nations communities across Australia. Its critical role in shaping and delivering policy and programs for First Nations peoples places its staff and infrastructure at increased exposure to risks, including targeted violence, surveillance, harassment, terrorism and reputational harm. SCG’s role was to ensure the NIAA was equipped with a robust, scalable and culturally respectful security framework that not only protected personnel and operations but also sustained the agency’s mission of meaningful community engagement.
Our approach assessed the effectiveness of the NIAA’s security controls—spanning management, administrative, physical, technical and operational domains—and provided actionable, risk-based recommendations aligned with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework and the NIAA’s 2024 Risk Policy. Importantly, our recommendations considered business-as-usual operations and high-threat scenarios, enabling the NIAA to respond flexibly and confidently in a changing threat environment.
SCG was honoured to support this vital initiative, bringing our national leadership in protective security and deep experience with government agencies to deliver tailored, effective and enduring outcomes. This work will directly contribute to safeguarding those who serve and represent First Nations communities, reinforcing the NIAA’s ability to lead with confidence, safety and integrity.
