Queen Victoria Market has been the heart and soul of Melbourne for more than a century. An historic landmark spread over two city blocks, it’s a vibrant and bustling inner-city market with over 600 small businesses for everything from fruit and vegetables and gourmet foods, to clothing and souvenirs.
SCG was engaged to provide security design and consultancy services for the Queen Victoria Market – Sheds E-M Engineering Services Project as part of the City of Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal Program.
As part of their engineering consultant services, Mott McDonald appointed SCG as specialist security consultants to provide security design for the CCTV and electronic access control systems associated with the portion 1 works area, which includes sheds E, F, J, K, L and M and adjoining verandas, pediments and walkway structures.
SCG’s scope of services for this project included on-site inspection and audit of the existing security systems, schematic design and detailed design.
This involved preparation of engineering drawings, specifications and documentation for CCTV system upgrades to ensure coverage across the market, integration of all systems to the existing QVM security systems, and consultation with stakeholders such as Victoria Police to establish requirements for third party access.
