Southern Remand Centre

The project comprised construction of a new remand centre between the male and female correctional centres and had a project budget of $70m. The new Southern Remand Centre involved construction of two new accommodation units to accommodate at least 140 male remandees and upgrades to existing Risdon Prison Complex facilities and infrastructure, including the gatehouse, prisoner processing, health centre and visitor centre.

The project was delivered under a two-stage managing contractor procurement model, with SCG contracted to provide services during the design stages through to completion of the design development stage. SCG’s scope of services included full design, documentation, construction administration and commissioning service for all electronic security systems required for the project.

SCG was subsequently engaged to assist the Department in upgrading and consolidating security equipment across the Southern Remand Centre and adjacent Mary Hutchinson Women’s Prison and Risdon Prison facilities.
