Western Sydney Airport
Construction of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport has commenced, with operations expected to begin in 2026. The airport will deliver international, domestic and freight services and will provide employment opportunities close to home for people in the Western Sydney region, while meeting the state’s growing aviation needs.

SCG was engaged by Cox Architecture to undertake a security planning advisory role to both Cox and Zaha Hadid for the Western Sydney Airport project.
The scope included the production of 30 per cent reference design. The advisory services included the following areas of expertise:
- Airside-landside perimeter
- Blast- and ballistic-resistant design
- Hostile vehicle mitigation
- Security screening
- Airport security zoning
Advisory services included extensive reference to key documents, including:
- Category 1 of the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005
- ‘Security controlled airport’ under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004
- Section 2.4 of Appendix B01 Reference Design Requirements Brief
- Airport Plan
- Functional specifications
- Security risk assessment of the terminal building
