Peter Wallis
Senior Security Consultant, Victoria
Peter brings more than four decades of experience in the justice and secure facilities sector, with a career that began in trade instruction at Pentridge Prison before evolving into senior roles spanning security, operations, and facility design. His unique perspective comes from years of working directly inside correctional environments, where he developed a deep understanding of both operational realities and human behaviour. That experience—combined with studies in criminal justice administration and psychology—allows Peter to bridge the gap between design intent and real-world application. Whether advising on custodial facilities, secure mental health centres, youth justice or other secure facility projects, he focuses on the end user’s needs, ensuring that facilities are safe, functional, and truly fit for purpose. His ability to translate live operational insight into practical design outcomes has made him a trusted mentor for younger engineers and a valued voice on SCG projects.
As he gets closer to retirement, Peter continues to apply his expertise at work while placing greater emphasis on family, travel, and community. He and his wife enjoy exploring beyond the main tourist routes, immersing themselves in local culture and history, as well as spending time with their children and grandchildren in central Victoria. A former CFA member and active school council volunteer, Peter has always valued giving back to the community and sharing knowledge with others. For him, the most rewarding part of his career has been ensuring that staff and residents alike can feel safe, secure, and supported within the facilities he has helped shape—an impact that will extend well beyond his time in the field.
Disciplines/speciality
The true measure of a correctional facility isn’t just in its design, but in whether the people inside—staff and residents—feel safe, secure, and supported.
