Richard Nixon is the Managing Director and co-founder of Security Consulting Group (SCG), a leading independent security and communications consultancy. With more than 35 years of experience spanning the Australian Defence Force, government, and private sectors, Richard has overseen the successful delivery of major projects throughout Australasia, the UK, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. His expertise covers the design and integration of complex high-security facilities, ranging from defence training grounds and justice precincts to national security infrastructure. Under his leadership, SCG has grown into one of the most capable specialist consultancies in the region, built on a sovereign, Australian-based, employee-owned and security-cleared workforce.

Richard is driven not simply by delivering projects but positioning the business to undertake the work that matters most. While SCG could have pursued a broad commercial portfolio in areas like residential or retail construction, Richard has always been determined to focus on infrastructure that underpins national resilience—defence, justice, government, transport, and critical technology. He is a strong advocate for engaging with complex, high-stakes projects that demand deep technical expertise and a long-term commitment to national outcomes, as opposed to safer, more commoditised opportunities.

Richard’s passion lies in aligning SCG with projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Many of these assignments, particularly in the defence and national security sectors, involve once-in-a-generation facilities and programs. Though much of this work remains confidential, the scale and complexity of these projects—often multi-billion-dollar, multi-year undertakings—require innovative thinking, rigorous technical debate, and close consultation with government agencies. Richard sees it as both a privilege and a responsibility to enable operational agencies to succeed in their missions, ensuring that SCG’s expertise directly strengthens Australia’s security and resilience.

Looking ahead, Richard is focused on deepening SCG’s specialist capabilities rather than chasing new markets. Building on a proven base in security, ICT, and high-security design, the business is evolving into adjacent disciplines, including cyber, emanation control and acoustics—services critical to modern defence and intelligence facilities. With a clear trajectory of sustainable growth, Richard’s vision is for SCG to remain the partner of choice for Australia’s most demanding projects, balancing expansion with the employee ownership model that keeps the business accountable, invested, and proudly sovereign.

Outside of work, Richard’s passions reflect the same mix of engineering precision and long-term legacy that drives his career. A restorer of antique Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycles, he enjoys the challenge of piecing together century-old machines from rare parts sourced worldwide. This meticulous, hands-on hobby gives him clarity and balance while also connecting him to a global community of enthusiasts. Above all, Richard values time with his wife Amanda and their two children, Georgina and Max, whose future needs continue to shape his perspective on both life and business.
