Simon West

Senior Security Consultant, Queensland

Simon West is a senior security professional with over 20 years’ experience in Australian Government agencies and consulting, specialising in protective security, counter terrorism, and counter espionage. Widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading hostile vehicle mitigation specialists, he has played a pivotal role in safeguarding some of the country’s most sensitive facilities, crowded places, transport hubs, and critical infrastructure. A contributing author to the Australian Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and several ANZCTC national guidelines, Simon’s expertise spans security policy development, SCEC accreditation, risk assessments, and protective security training—both in Australia and internationally. He has managed the SCEC Security Consultant scheme, directed national training programs, and delivered integrated security solutions on landmark projects such as the Melbourne Protective Security Enhancement Program.

An Associate at Security Consulting Group, Simon combines deep technical knowledge with proven leadership in project governance, stakeholder engagement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. He partners with government, architects, transport planners, and urban designers to deliver proportionate, people-focused security strategies that protect assets while preserving the accessibility and vibrancy of public spaces. Passionate about ensuring Australia’s sovereignty and resilience in an increasingly complex environment, Simon is regularly invited to speak at national forums, where he shares insights on integrated security approaches. Away from work, he enjoys time with family, car shows, bushwalking, and good coffee, and continues his long-standing commitment to community service through volunteering.
